hi, im a hooker. just moved up to senior level. my throwing is good but i want to improve on it, not only at short range but at long range aswell. can you give me some advise to point me in the right direction and some drills that will improve my skill
Dear aspiring hooker,
If you need to improve the length and accuracy of your throwing then you could do well to follow how Lee Mears practises. Lee stands 15 metres away from the goal posts on the try line so he is side on to the posts. He then throws 20 times hitting a target he has picked out on the posts. He then steps back 5 metres and repeats the excercise. He can do this without needing anyone else to help him but, of course, the best practise is "live" and so there is no real substitute to throwing to your jumpers.
With longer throws the main thrust comes from the legs and stomach rather than the arms. Accuracy is a matter of practise and there are no shortcuts I am afraid.
I wish you luck
Simon
